Republican CNN/YouTube Debate Moved to November

New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani has agreed to participate in the CNN/YouTube debate, which has moved to November 28.

The novel debate format, in which voters submit their questions to the presidential candidates in 30-second video clips, has elicited both widespread praise and criticism. Some commenters found the format entertaining, and that it broke up an otherwise stiff proceeding. But critics complained that the format trivialized the election process. Still others said that CNN had not changed the format enough to make the debate between the Democrats really fresh, innovative and informative.

The CNN/YouTube debate did not break any ratings records -- in fact more people watched a prior debate that took place earlier this year between the Democrats that used the traditional debate format. And by the time this next Republican CNN/YouTube debate occurs, it will be the 10th time that some of those presidential candidates would have argued their positions with each other.

Still, the debates are likely to have a different tenor as there will be a different line-up of candidates. Former Governor Tommy Thompson announced Sunday, in the wake of a poor showing at the Ames, IA, straw poll, that he is dropping out of the race. And Fred Thompson is likely to have announced his candidacy by the November date.
